East Cheyenne is seeking to develop a natural gas storage facility on mineral leases
held by Merchant Energy Partners, LLC (MEP) in two nearly depleted reservoirs, known
as West Peetz and Lewis Creek, located approximately 23 miles north of Sterling,
in Logan County, Colorado. The new project, to be known as the East Cheyenne Gas
Storage Project, is intended to provide natural gas storage to meet the existing
peak day and load growth needs in markets throughout the Midwest and Western U.S.
The proposed West Peetz storage area would have a total working gas inventory of
11.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf), and the Lewis Creek storage area would have a total
working gas inventory of 7.4 Bcf. Numerous wells will allow for the injection and
withdrawal of gas, which will be aided by the addition of a compressor station.
As currently designed, the Project would involve installation of the following facilities:
- Well pads for gas injection/withdrawal, production, and water injection. Currently East Cheyenne anticipates that six well pads will be necessary for the Project to achieve its targeted injection and withdrawal capabilities.
- A compressor station and gas processing facility to be developed on an approximately 60-acre site
- Gathering lines (8- to 24-inch pipe) will connect each well pad to the compressor station and associated facilities.
- Pipeline interconnects (one 16-inch and one 24-inch)will be installed in a single corridor to connect the compressor station to the Rockies Express (“REX”) and Trailblazer interstate natural gas pipelines at a site about 3.5 miles north of the proposed compressor station site.
- A meter station will be installed at the REX/Trailblazer interconnects with the East Cheyenne pipelines.
